Sonoscultura is an artist residency for artists and creators from different areas, both national and international, promoted by Oficinas do Convento (Montemor-o-Novo).
Through the annual Grants and Residencies Call, 6 artists were selected to work in a collective workshop format in the Sonoscultura artistic residency (2024), under the guidance and curatorship of Ricardo Jacinto (OSSO Colectivo), among them: Mariana P Coelho, Margarida Albino, Claire Nichols, Madalena Matoso, Rocio Calvo, Paulo Morais.
Based on listening sessions, sketches, drawings and recordings collected in the city of Montemor-o-Novo, we created a collective installation that reflects our experience of the place through sound. The result of the work, sharing, discussion and a lot of listening, experienced by all the participants during the 10 immersive days of artistic residency, was exhibited at the Galeria Municipal de Montemor-o-Novo, between June 20 and July 20, 2024, in the context of the Cidade Preocupada 2024.
Installed in the Galeria Municipal's building, this collective piece explores the interaction between two different multichannel sound diffusion systems: one through resonant objects-sculptures that project a sound composition, inside the Gallery; and the other through a radio transmission that invites us to walk around the Gallery.
“ Pipes” in the Alentejo, was the sound composition I created to be part of this collective installation and to be diffused through the resonant objects-sculptures found in the Oficinas do Convento, which highlight the soundscape of this place in the Alentejo. Below a video excerpt of the sound composition installed in the Gallery:

To listen to the entire sound composition go to > Sound Compositions > "Tubes"

On the Opening Day, we put on a joint performance interacting with the objects on display at the entrance to the Gallery and in the garden, which was simultaneously transmitted via radio and also through the sound projectors outside:
